Trump: Omar Should Face Jail, Deportation Threat

President Donald Trump went after Rep. Ilhan Omar in a blunt Truth Social post. He called her a “fake” congresswoman, accused her of knowing about big fraud in Minnesota, and said she should be jailed — or sent back to Somalia.

Trump wrote:

“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud. Fake “Congresswoman” Illhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know. She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!”

The post drew heavy attention online. Supporters cheered. Opponents pushed back. Omar is a Somali-born refugee who became a U.S. citizen in 2000 and has represented Minnesota’s 5th District since 2019.

Allegations have followed her for years. Some reports claim she benefited from irregular marriages to help relatives’ immigration. Others flag a rapid rise in reported personal wealth between 2023 and 2025. Those figures and claims have not been resolved in court and remain contested.

Meanwhile, federal prosecutors have pursued one of the biggest fraud probes tied to pandemic-era relief and state programs. Since 2022, nearly 100 people have been charged in schemes involving child nutrition and other programs. Authorities say the stolen amounts are massive. Convictions to date account for over $1 billion, and some estimates suggest many billions more could be affected.

Federal officials froze certain Minnesota childcare and small business funds late last year amid allegations of fraud. Prosecutors have alleged that large sums meant for programs like Medicaid and child nutrition were diverted. Some investigators have raised concerns that money could have been sent overseas; those claims are part of ongoing probes.

This is politically explosive. Trump’s comments add fuel to the fire. Investigations continue. Legal outcomes and verified findings will matter most in the end.
