Omar: We Will Impeach Kristi Noem

Rep. Ilhan Omar went on national TV this week and promised action. Short version: she says Democrats will push to impeach Gov. Kristi Noem if Noem doesn’t step down.

The episode comes after Omar was sprayed with vinegar at a town hall. She spoke about the incident on All In With Chris Hayes. Some people immediately raised questions about whether the attack was staged. Others see it as proof of the heated political climate.

Omar also took aim at a top Trump aide. She singled out Stephen Miller and used a heavy charge.

Here’s what she said, verbatim:

“It is their rhetoric that is risking lives, that have already gotten people killed here in Minnesota, that is producing political violence,” Omar told Chris Hayes. “And they are creating the domestic terrorists that they speak about because they are acting like domestic terrorists.”

And in the interview transcript, she was clear about next steps and her target. Again, verbatim:

Hayes: Final question for you, and I know you have to go. You were calling for Kristi Noem to resign when you were assaulted last night. Do you think Kristi Noem should resign? Do you think Stephen Miller should be out of a job? What do you want to see happen?

Omar: Yeah. I mean, definitely Kristi Noem should resign. If not, as Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated, we will initiate impeachment. Nobody should ever have hired Stephen Miller, who basically has a— is a copycat of the Nazis, and that’s kind of the cruelty that he wants to, you know, inflict on people. He should definitely be out, I believe, for his part in this, definitely should be prosecuted at some point.

Omar tied the hostility she faced to broader immigration rhetoric. She argued the tone coming from the right fuels violence and anger. That’s the core of her claim.

House Democrats are signaling they’re ready to act. As reported elsewhere, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats will move forward with Noem’s impeachment. Jeffries reportedly claimed Noem has “presided over the cold-blooded killings of American citizens like Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.” He also said Stephen Miller “needs to go as well.” “He’s a stone-cold liar, he’s a bigot, he’s a hateful individual. He’s a malignant, unelected interloper,” Jeffries said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also joined the chorus. He told reporters, “Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller are f*cking liars,” and pushed for defunding DHS and ICE as part of the broader pressure campaign.

What this means on the ground is still unclear. Impeachment is a heavy lift. It needs votes, evidence, and time. But the rhetoric is loud now. Expect hearings, investigations, and more headlines. The fight over immigration policy and political accountability just got louder.
