Secret Service Cuffs Protester After Trump Doral Security Alarm
A protester was handcuffed by Secret Service agents at Trump National Doral in Florida after trying to pass through a checkpoint and setting off the magnetometers. Video from the scene showed agents moving in quickly as security responded to the alarm.
The man’s identity was not immediately released, and it was not clear whether he was formally taken into custody after the encounter. He was seen wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and a baseball cap when agents restrained him.
The episode happened while President Trump was not at the club. He had spent Saturday at Trump National Golf Club Jupiter in Florida before later leaving Palm Beach aboard Air Force One for Miami, where he was expected to attend the PGA Tour Cadillac Championship.
Even without the president on site, the Secret Service still had to treat the situation seriously. That is the job. A security checkpoint is not the place for games, delays, or people trying to force their way through. When alarms go off, agents have to assume the worst until they know otherwise.
The timing also made the incident stand out. It came just one week after a far more dangerous event in Washington, where a man stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton and opened fire on Secret Service agents during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Authorities later charged Cole Allen, 31, with attempting to assassinate the president of the United States, transporting a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
That backdrop makes it clear why the Secret Service moves fast when something looks off. A protester cutting close to a restricted area may not sound like much at first, but in today’s climate, security teams cannot afford to shrug anything off. One bad decision can turn into a major incident in seconds.
For Trump, his properties, and the agents assigned to protect them, the message is simple. The perimeter matters, the checkpoint matters, and security is not optional.
