Why Are Thune and Cotton Allegedly Withholding John Brennan’s Senate Transcripts?
Investigative reporter John Solomon of Just the News says Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton are blocking DOJ investigator Joe DiGenova from obtaining John Brennan’s interview transcripts from the Senate Judiciary and Intelligence Committees.
That alleged delay is now holding up an investigation into Brennan’s role in the Crossfire Hurricane probe and the broader effort targeting Donald Trump in 2016. According to Solomon, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has refused to authorize a subpoena seeking the documents from the Senate.
Solomon raised the issue on The War Room with Steve Bannon. Blanche responded the next day, saying there is “no daylight” between him, Leader Thune, and Chairman Cotton.
That answer raises a straightforward question: If everyone is on the same page, why has DiGenova still not received the information needed for his investigation?
Conservative journalist Paul Sperry has added another layer to the dispute. Sperry alleged on X that FBI headquarters was holding back a 400-page report, along with roughly 7,000 pages of supporting documents, from declassification. The report was prepared by the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility and allegedly examines the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, including John Brennan and the Five Eyes intelligence network.
The Five Eyes group includes intelligence agencies from the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Sperry later issued a correction, saying the FBI claimed other “equities” in the intelligence chain were delaying the release.
Sperry then asked: “But bottom line, where is this massively important Russiagate document, and why hasn’t it been daylighted — still — after five (5) years?”
He followed that post with an even more serious allegation. Sperry said DOJ sources told him Senate Republican leaders Thune and Cotton were refusing to declassify a key Brennan transcript to protect Marco Rubio’s political future.

If accurate, that allegation would create serious political problems for Rubio, who has been mentioned as a possible 2028 presidential contender. The larger issue remains the documents themselves. A 400-page review and thousands of pages of supporting material should not sit hidden indefinitely. The Senate needs to explain the delay and release the records.
