Trump Tells Reporter “Quiet!” While Defending White House Press Pool Shakeup
President Donald Trump confronted a reporter before leaving the White House for Tennessee, sharply defending his decision to reshape the White House press pool.
The Gateway Pundit report said CNN, MS Now, and Politico had been excluded from traveling with Trump on Air Force One or from participating in the White House press pool. The dispute has centered on whether those outlets deserve continued access after years of coverage that Trump says voters have rejected.
The reporter challenged Trump directly, asking, “Do you only want outlets that support you to be a part of the press pool?”
Trump rejected the premise. “No, no, I want real news, not fake news like you. Listen, I want real news. I love an open free press.” He then criticized CNN and MS Now, saying, “But you know why they changed it? Because their ratings are so bad.”
When the reporter tried to interrupt, Trump said, “Wait, wait, quiet!” He continued, “What I don’t like is fake news, and they’re fake news, 100%.”
As reporters shouted questions, Trump added, “In two years, I doubt they did one good story, and I won the election in a landslide,” before saying, “What we don’t want is we don’t want fake news,” and walking away.
The exchange came as CNN reacted to being barred from traveling on Air Force One with the president. According to the report, CNN claimed Saturday that there was no outlet available to replace it in the pool. The network said that would mean “limited coverage of his trip” and insisted that “there’s no TV pool coverage.”
The report disputed that claim by pointing to Real America’s Voice. The outlet was in the air and on the ground with Trump during the trip, providing audio and video coverage to any organization that wanted to use it. Real America’s Voice and The Gateway Pundit were both identified as covering the president’s departure and travel.
That point is at the heart of the fight. CNN presented the change as a loss of television access. The Gateway Pundit argued that coverage remained available, just not through the same legacy outlets that have long dominated the White House press pool.
MS Now also entered the dispute. The network claimed conservative media were gaining financial benefits from the White House and attacked them as “state media.” That accusation added another layer to the fight over which organizations should receive access and how the public should judge their coverage.
Trump’s position was blunt. He said he supports an open press, but not what he considers fake news. He also pointed to his claim that he won the election in a landslide while arguing that left-wing media outlets still produce overwhelmingly negative coverage of him.
The confrontation offered a clear snapshot of the broader media battle. Trump wants the White House press pool to include outlets he considers real news organizations. CNN argued that removing established networks limits coverage.
