Taylor Gosnell Charged After Her Children Allegedly Suffer About 50 Stab Wounds
A South Carolina mother is in jail after investigators said she attacked her two children with a knife, leaving both young victims with severe injuries.
Taylor Gosnell, 35, of Cowpens, was arrested after deputies responded to a home on Bud Arthur Drive in Spartanburg County. Deputies were called around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Fox 8.
Deputies found Gosnell’s children, ages 3 and 6, inside the home. Both were alive but covered in blood and suffering from serious stab wounds. Investigators said the children had been left home alone after the alleged attack.
“Between the two children, we’re estimating that there were approximately 50 stab wounds,” said Graham McLellan with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
One of the children reportedly called the grandmother and said he was hungry. The grandmother and an ex-boyfriend of Gosnell then went to the home and contacted police.
A social media post about the case also described the extent of the children’s injuries.
According to the solicitor’s office, some of the wounds were extremely deep. “Some of the lacerations were so deep they cut to the bone,” the solicitor’s office said in bond court.
Investigators said Gosnell allegedly attacked the children early that morning, while it was still dark. She later returned to the home while deputies were still there. Authorities said she was speaking rapidly and appeared distressed.
Gosnell was placed in an ambulance and taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. She was later jailed and now faces two counts of attempted murder, along with an additional weapon charge.
Both children were taken to a nearby hospital and were expected to recover, according to reports. The New York Post separately reported that one child faced the possibility of having fingers amputated because of the injuries.
The case remains an allegation. Gosnell has been accused of attacking her children, and the charges have not been resolved in court.
