Rep. Ilhan Omar issued a defiant statement Monday after federal agents reportedly raided her D.C. residence, according to a report from The Gateway Pundit.
The report said the raid was part of an ongoing criminal investigation into Omar’s immigration paperwork. It said federal HSI agents arrived at 6 a.m. and removed boxes of evidence. The report also said the Justice Department secured a search warrant for the home.
The report also revisited long-running allegations about Omar’s immigration history, including a claim that she married her brother to defraud U.S. immigration. Citing a limited Wikipedia biography, it said Omar divorced her second husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2011, and alleged that Elmi is her brother. The report presented those claims as background to the reported investigation.
Omar rejected the political framing of the raid and accused President Donald Trump of targeting her. Her statement said:
“I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”
“I will not be silenced,” she added.
Omar’s post was dated October 12, 2026.
House Democratic leadership also condemned the raid. Its statement accused Trump and “far-right extremists” of targeting Omar with personal attacks and baseless accusations. It said the raid came less than 30 days before the midterm election:
“For years, Donald Trump and far-right extremists have relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Omar with vile personal attacks and baseless accusations. Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family.”
The statements offered sharply different portrayals of the reported raid. Omar called it an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement, while House Democratic leaders portrayed it as intimidation against a duly elected member of Congress. According to the report, the underlying investigation concerns immigration paperwork, and agents removed boxes of evidence under a Justice Department search warrant.
