Trump Threat Suspect Arrested Near White House With Three Guns
Secret Service agents arrested a Venezuelan man near the White House after he allegedly said voices in his head were telling him to kill President Donald J. Trump. Authorities say a search of his vehicle turned up three firearms and ammunition.
The suspect, Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, was taken into custody Thursday. According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents noticed him behaving suspiciously in a vehicle parked on Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C.
The account, reported by BizPac Review citing Fox News and federal officials, also raises a pointed immigration question: DHS says Chrinos entered the country illegally through Texas in March 2024 and was released under the Biden administration.
When agents approached the vehicle, Chrinos allegedly told them he had heard voices instructing him to travel to Washington to kill Trump. Officials said the vehicle was stolen.
A search uncovered an AR-15-style rifle, a Mac-10, a Glock-43x and ammunition, according to DHS. The reported threat and the weapons made this far more than a routine encounter near the president’s residence.
According to officials, U.S. Border Patrol arrested Chrinos after he illegally crossed into the country through Texas in March 2024. He was subsequently released into the United States. After the Secret Service arrest, Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer with the U.S. Marshals Service, which has him in custody.
That release is central to the criticism from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin. His argument is straightforward: a man officials say should not have been in the country was later found armed near the White House, allegedly threatening the president.
“Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this criminal illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone,” Mullin said in a statement.
Mullin also directly faulted the previous administration’s handling of the suspect.
“On top of threatening President Trump, he is an illegal alien from Venezuela who was RELEASED into our country by the Biden administration. He had NO business being in our country in the first place,” he said.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran credited agents’ training and judgment during the encounter. The agency described the arrest as another example of the danger posed by armed people drawn to the White House complex.
“This is the latest example of Secret Service personnel relying on extensive training and experience to de-escalate a volatile situation that posed an imminent threat to our protectees and other Americans,” Curran said in a statement.
Chrinos faces numerous charges. They include carrying a rifle outside a home or business; three counts each involving unlawful transportation of a firearm, possessing an unregistered firearm and possessing unregistered ammunition; possession of certain dangerous weapons; and carrying a pistol without a license.
Authorities also charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and receiving stolen property. Those are allegations, not convictions.
The arrest comes against the backdrop of at least two assassination attempts Trump has survived, including the July 2024 attack at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In this case, officials credit Secret Service agents with stopping the situation before anyone was harmed. The suspect’s reported border history also puts the Biden administration’s release decision squarely back under scrutiny.
