A significantly overweight Democratic influencer recently claimed that her weight loss of 50 pounds is due to the unaffordable conditions purportedly brought on by the state of the economy. Olivia Julianna, a self-proclaimed Democratic strategist with a substantial following of over 330,000 users on X, asserted, “I’m actually down 50 pounds because I can’t afford to eat in Trump’s economy.”
Her statement was made in response to a user’s jest about her potentially going on a hunger strike to pressure the reestablishment of funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development. Olivia Julianna, who also describes herself as a “queer, plus-size, disabled Latina,” was profiled by Bloomberg, where her activism and outreach efforts were highlighted.
The article noted her advocacy for significant causes affecting young individuals, such as combating climate change. Her digital campaigns have been notably directed against Texas Governor Greg Abbott by promoting Beto O’Rourke’s candidacy under the hashtag #bestiebeto, as well as targeting the state’s attorney general, Ken Paxton.
With a combined social media following on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter nearing about 1 million, and recognition from publications such as Teen Vogue, Julianna has positioned herself as a strong adversarial voice against politicians she deems bullying, utilizing her savvy trolling techniques effectively.
Julianna’s influence was further recognized when she was given the platform to speak at the Democratic National Convention the previous August, where she implored young members to consolidate their support behind Kamala Harris. Her speech, emphasizing voting rights, namely stated, “Donald Trump’s Republicans are making it harder for us to vote, but we won’t let them get away with it, and Kamala Harris won’t let them get away with it either.”
Ironically however, despite Olivia Julianna’s impassioned advocacy, American voters appeared to have different intentions, resulting in a stark and memorable loss for Harris and the Democratic Party.
