On Monday, a group of prominent activists, including Jonathan Zachreson, Founder of Students First California and Erin Friday, Lawyer and Parental Rights Advocate, took to the steps of California’s Capitol Building to announce a statewide ballot initiative that would ban child sex change surgeries in the state. Two other initiatives were also announced to ban puberty-blockers for children without chemical imbalances and to prevent biological males from competing in women’s sports.
“Is gender-affirmative care lifesaving or life-ending?” commented Friday. “I’ll tell you it’s life-ending. As for schools, schools do not replace the parent. This legislature in AB 665 said upwards of 78% of LGBTQ kids have contemplated suicide. So why would you keep that secret from the parent?”
The Protect Children From Reproductive Harm Act would deny gender-transitioning surgery to minors, ensuring that they are protected from making life-altering medical decisions before they can understand the potential long-term consequences. The School Transparency and Partnership Act would also require schools to inform parents when their child identifies as a different gender, while
the Protect Girls Sports and Spaces Act would protect fairness in professional league sports and safety in bathrooms by allowing female athletes to remain competitive without boys or men taking advantage of them.
Sophia Lorey, a female rights activist, believes that there should be a clear line between the sexes for sports, bathrooms, and other activities.
“This is not bigotry,” she said. “It’s biology. Allowing boys in girls’ sports does not create an equal playing field, but instead robs these young women of their athletic aspirations.”
Chloe Cole, a detransitioner, vouched for the initiative after her own experience with “gender-affirming” care.
“I was experimented on by Kaiser Permanente in Oakland,” she shared. “You need to wake up. You need to vote for these ballot measures.”

For these initiatives to be put onto the ballot, the activists will need to collect 550,000 signatures. The California Attorney General’s Office did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment on the ballot initiative.
As of now, Florida and Alabama have already banned biological males from competing in women’s sports on the state level, and now California is vying to join their ranks at the voting box. While these activists are focused on protecting children from sex changes and protecting women’s rights, ultimately, it is a matter of preventing children from making irreversible decisions before they are able to understand the potentially damaging consequences.
