D.C. City Councilmember Trayon White, notorious for his controversial claim in 2018 that “Jewish bankers control the weather,” has been charged with accepting bribes. The U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia announced Monday that White is accused of agreeing to take tens of thousands of dollars in kickbacks and cash payments to ensure lucrative government contracts are extended.

He was arrested Sunday after allegedly agreeing to accept $156,000 in bribes in exchange for exerting pressure on officials at the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) and the D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS). According to an arrest affidavit from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Washington Field Office, White had already received four cash payments totaling $35,000 from a confidential source. The FBI recorded video footage of the confidential source explaining to White how his share of the contracts was calculated.
White, when offered an envelope containing $15,000 in cash, reportedly responded, “What you need me to do, man? I don’t, I don’t wanna feel like you gotta gimme something to get something. We better than that,” as per the affidavit.
The contracts in question were reportedly valued at $5.2 million and were for two companies engaged in violence prevention programs. White allegedly agreed to accept 3% of the contract value in kickbacks. In addition to cash bribes, the affidavit notes that White accepted trips to the Dominican Republic and Las Vegas, Nevada, paid for by the confidential source.

“Because the investigation into the alleged bribery scheme involved contracts that could soon be awarded and other potential official acts that could be taken, our Office took swift steps to address the alleged crimes we were investigating,” stated U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew M. Graves in the press release.
White made headlines in 2018 when he posted a Facebook video reacting to a snowfall in Washington D.C., in which he suggested Jewish bankers were manipulating the weather: “Man, it just started snowing out of nowhere this morning, man. Y’all better pay attention to this climate control, man, this climate manipulation,” he said. “And D.C. keep talking about, ‘We a resilient city.’ And that’s a model based off the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters they can pay for to own the cities, man. Be careful.”
White’s controversial associations don’t end there. In the same year, he donated $500 to a Nation of Islam event where leader Louis Farrakhan referred to Jews as his “enemies.”
