The brave men and women in our military put their lives on the line to protect us. They see actual combat and some have the misfortune of seeing their friends die in battle. So it is more than understandable that some come back with a degree of shellshock, aka PTSD. So it is truly disrespectful that AOC would compare her brief stint supposedly hiding in an office during the January 6th raid to those that actually experience war. AOC said as much during an interview on the podcast “Latino USA” with host Maria Hinojosa
“…Ocasio-Cortez said that the insurrection was deeply traumatizing for many members of Congress, who effectively “served in war.”
“The cycle has just been moved on, but it has deeply, deeply affected lawmaking, policymaking, it has impacted the actual legislative process, the aftermath of it, and it’s very quiet, it’s not spoken about,” AOC said. “I think after the 6th, I took some time and it was really Ayanna Presley, when I explained to her what had happened to me like the day of, because I ran to her office. And she was like, you need to recognize trauma and that this is something that you went through, but we’re all going through.”
Hinojosa asked AOC if she was doing therapy, and she claimed,
“Yeah. Oh, yeah, I am doing therapy. But also, I’ve just slowed down. I think the Trump administration had a lot of us, especially Latino communities, in a very reactive mode. And so I’ve been putting myself in more proactive space.”
She then went on to blame white supremacy for the raid on January 6th.
“I think the attacks on the right are about, there are certain mythologies that are really important to this idea of American exceptionalism,” she claimed. “But there’s also certain mythologies that are very important to maintaining white supremacy, white supremacy in and of itself is a mythology. And you have to protect it in order to protect that political power, which has now become a very important base in the Republican Party. And that’s why that response was so vociferous, to make it seem that it wasn’t as bad as it was, and it was bad.”
Now we know why her eyes are brown because she is just so full of it. She hid in an Office… She was not injured and basically, nothing happened to her. But she feels her experience was similar to a person who served in war… I don’t know what kind of sheltered life she has lived but this is offensive to anyone who has actually served.
The raid on the U.S. Capitol Building had nothing to do with race. The people were just upset about the election as there were clear concerns that it was rigged. So AOC is wrong on multiple levels here.
