It’s a sad joke of an enforcement operation and a pandering PR stunt. The Biden administration has announced a so-called “targeted enforcement operation” in El Paso, Texas, but it looks more like a warning to illegal immigrants than a serious effort to stem the tide of illegal entry into the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press release gives illegal immigrants a head’s up on where to run and hide in order to avoid arrest. This is a terrible way to handle border security, and it’s no wonder why the Border Patrol’s union is so upset.
“Nothing like publicly announcing that dangerous people will be arrested, while warning them ahead of time exactly where to run and hide to avoid arrest,” the union tweeted. “This entire operation is a sad joke—another pandering PR stunt. Serious law enforcement leaders don’t behave this way.”
Unfortunately, this pandering PR stunt is a part of a larger border crisis that has only worsened since President Joe Biden took office. In just 72 hours, the El Paso port of entry has seen “over 26,000 apprehensions and over 7,000 ‘gotaways,'” and the Border Patrol reported 162,317 migrant encounters in March alone.
And the border crisis is only getting worse. On Thursday at midnight, the Biden administration will end the Trump-era rule called Title 42, which expedited illegal immigrant expulsions. According to DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, this will “strain our workforce, our communities, and our entire system,” but the decision has not been reversed.
This is unacceptable. The Biden administration is sending a message to illegal immigrants that they can enter the United States without consequence. This will only encourage more illegal immigration, further straining our resources and endangering our citizens.
We need real border security, not PR stunts. We need serious law enforcement leaders who will take a hard stance against illegal immigration, not those who are pandering to those who are breaking the law. We need to send a clear message that illegal immigration is not tolerated and that there will be serious consequences for those who attempt to enter the United States without authorization.

This is not a partisan issue. This is a national security issue, and it needs to be addressed as such. It’s time for the Biden administration to take border security seriously and put an end to their pandering PR stunts.
