Border Crisis: Mayorkas Facing Articles of Impeachment

It’s no surprise that the border between the United States and Mexico has been a hot topic of discussion over the past few months. With illegal immigration on the rise, the Biden administration has been scrambling to address the situation, but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

Now, one Republican lawmaker is taking the matter into his own hands, introducing articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Representative Andy Biggs of Arizona, who is a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, recently appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to explain why he believes Mayorkas must be removed from office.

Biggs argues that it is Congress’ responsibility to “remove a public official from office … who is causing public harm,” and believes that Mayorkas is doing just that. He cites the Founding Fathers, stating that a public official can be removed for committing “high crimes and misdemeanors,” which he believes Mayorkas has done.

The Arizona Republican points out that prior to the Biden-Mayorkas administration, the Yuma border sector saw fewer than 9,000 illegal immigrant encounters, but in 2021, that number skyrocketed to 360,000.

He also claims that Mayorkas has gotten rid of every policy from the Trump-era and prior that was actually working to keep the border secure, and he believes the secretary has willfully imposed dangerous policies that are causing chaos in the country.

Other House lawmakers have also voiced their concerns about Mayorkas, with Rep. Debbie Lesko of Arizona calling for the secretary to step down or face investigation by the newly-GOP-led chamber and Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado confronting Mayorkas during a hearing and comparing him to Benedict Arnold.

It’s clear that the border situation isn’t going away anytime soon, and many people are wondering what will happen next.

It remains to be seen if Biggs’ articles of impeachment will gain any traction in Congress, or if they will be swept under the rug like so many other issues. But the state of the border is a major concern for many Americans, and something needs to be done soon. It’s time for the Biden administration to take action, or face the consequences.
