Federal law enforcement officials have made significant strides in combatting organized crime with the recent apprehension of a “high-ranking” MS-13 gang leader, underscoring the success of President Donald Trump’s firm stance on illegal immigration and enforcement actions.
In Hyattsville, Maryland, a mere six miles away from the nation’s capital, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, working in conjunction with the FBI, managed to capture David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman. The 27-year-old Salvadoran national, residing unlawfully in the United States, is accused of controlling operations for the notorious MS-13 gang throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. This arrest highlights the effectiveness of the administration’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks within the country.
Acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, Matthew Elliston, hailed the apprehension as a “significant blow” to the MS-13 terrorist organization’s leadership. His statement emphasized the importance of the robust cooperation between ICE and the FBI. “This arrest speaks volumes about the cooperation enjoyed between ICE and the FBI,” Elliston declared. He further stated the agency’s unwavering dedication to public safety by focusing on the arrest and removal of illegal alien offenders from communities nationwide.
In December 2016, Salvadoran authorities arrested Orellana-Aleman on charges of terrorist affiliation and other crimes associated with his documented MS-13 membership. Despite facing these serious charges, Orellana-Aleman managed to unlawfully enter the U.S., evading immigration inspection. His arrest again by Prince George’s County Police on charges of driving without a license in December underscores the urgency of stringent immigration law enforcement policies. Following his most recent apprehension by federal agents, Orellana-Aleman remains in ICE custody.

FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge William J. DelBagno praised the arrest, stating, “Maryland is immediately safer because of this arrest.” DelBagno’s comments reflect the broader, nationwide impact of targeting dangerous criminals. “His arrest demonstrates the success we can have when we collectively investigate and disrupt violent criminals seeking to exploit our communities,” DelBagno continued.
The Trump administration’s approach has successfully revitalized immigration enforcement measures since the President’s office tenure began in January. The administration cast aside restrictions that limited ICE’s powers, thereby enabling agents to conduct enforcement actions across the country without hindrance. As part of the ambitious deportation initiative, led by Border Czar Tom Homan, the administration adheres steadfastly to a “worst first” policy, prioritizing the deportation of illegal migrants guilty of severe crimes such as murder, sex trafficking, and drug trafficking.

President Trump’s decisive actions have fostered international cooperation, with leaders like El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele emerging as key allies. Following a productive meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Bukele has pledged support for Trump’s initiatives by offering El Salvador’s “mega-prison” for housing deported MS-13 members and other international criminals. Such cooperation emphasizes the global importance of rigorous immigration control measures.
