House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer expressed overwhelming concern at the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) attempt to imprison witness Devon Archer ahead of his testimony before Congress. Comer stated on Fox Business, “making sure Archer serves prison time for a conviction unrelated to the substance of his congressional testimony… It’s odd that the DOJ is doing this on a Saturday right before he’s scheduled to come in”.
This allegation was further investigated and verified by Politico, which discovered that the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York attempted to push the court into scheduling a day for Archer to turn himself in and begin his sentence. Speaking with Fox News’ Maria Bariromo, Comer questioned “Do you ever see — you usually see the DOJ send letters like this out on a Saturday? Never. Never. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of the Department of Justice doing anything on a Saturday”.

According to Devine of the NYP, Archer is slated to testify at the House Oversight Committee tomorrow, shedding light on President Joe Biden’s connections and involvement in his son’s foreign business dealings. Comer explained, “so I don’t know if this is a coincidence … or this is another example of the weaponization of the Department of Justice. But I can tell you this, the lengths to which the Biden legal team has gone to try to intimidate our witnesses”.
He went on to explain how the Biden legal team has allegedly attempted to “coordinate with the Department of Justice and certainly coordinate with the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee to encourage people not to cooperate with our investigation, to encourage banks not to turn over bank records, to encourage treasury not to let us have access to those suspicious activity reports”.
Expressing outrage, Comer surmised these latest developments as “very troubling” and “another violation of the law. This is obstruction of justice”. With mounting media attention, President Biden has remained silent on the matter and Congress is determined to uncover the truth.
If the DOJ’s alleged tactics to stifle Archer’s testimony are true, this could have a disastrous outcome for Biden’s run in the upcoming election.
