President Trump reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding the U.S. Navy to deter Chinese aggression against Taiwan in an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt. Trump cited the need for a dominant Navy in order to ensure the safety and security of U.S. trade and interests around the world, and criticized the inaction of the Biden administration in this area.
In a replay of Baltic Sea undersea infrastructure attacks by Chinese ships in October of 2023 and November 2024, a Chinese-associated ship has now destroyed a major undersea cable off Taiwan.
On Friday, January 3, at about 1240 hours local time, Chungwha Telecom noticed an outage from its Trans-Pacific Express (TPE) Cable, which it owns and operates with AT&T, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT, NTT, and Verizon.
“We need ships…We used to build a ship a day. We don’t build ships anymore,” Trump stated. “We want to get that started. And maybe we’ll use allies, also, in terms of building ships.”
Trump also noted the alarming pace at which China is building its naval fleet, stating, “From what I’m hearing, [China] is knocking out a ship every four days. And we’re sitting back watching. And we’ve suffered tremendously.”

Hewitt agreed, emphasizing Trump’s “navalist” approach and contrasting it with the Biden administration’s focus on the “absurdity” of the Green New Deal.
It is clear that Trump is dedicated to taking swift action to build a strong naval force, unlike Biden who has prioritized investing in “green” initiatives over national security.
The recent cutting of undersea internet cables by China is a clear indication of their aggressive intentions towards Taiwan. If we don’t act now, a “Cuban Missile Crisis”-like quarantine of Taiwan by China could be just around the corner.
President Trump’s plan to rebuild the U.S. Navy and enhance our alliance with Japan and South Korea stands as our best defense against China’s attempts to isolate Taiwan. Don’t let Biden’s inaction put our national security at risk.

China’s recent aggression towards Taiwan is no coincidence. They are taking advantage of Biden’s weak stance on national security and attempting to assert their dominance in the region. Only strong leadership from Trump can prevent further attacks and preserve our relationships with our allies.
