Liberal media outlets have long sought to present their worldview as fact, and often do so without consequence. Now, after recently firing Terri Lesley from her controlling position at the Campbell County Public Library System in Wyoming, CNN has added insult to injury by allowing her to falsely claim that none of the books in the library contain any sexually explicit material.
In an interview on CNN’s This Morning show, co-host Phil Mattingly asked Lesley about the “community members [who] challenged 29 books, including,” featuring pictures of Gender Queer, Lawn Boy, and This Book is Gay. Despite the fact that Gender Queer author Maia Kobabe has identified their comic book as sexually explicit and Lawn Boy author Jonathan Evison has explicitly said that his book is meant for adults, Lesley was allowed to make the outrageous claim that “there is nothing in the library that can be classified as pornography in any way shape or form.”
At no point did the show’s hosts question why Lesley would include orgies and how-to’s on sex apps in her definition of ‘sex education books.’ By allowing such falsehoods to be disseminated in the media, CNN isn’t just perpetuating inaccuracies, they’re actively contributing to the conservative caricature of liberals as morally bankrupt “indoctrinators” of children.
We should all be wary of any media platform that so easily disregards the facts in order to push an agenda. In this case, the added irony is that the news network allowed a known liar to speak without consequence and ended up furthering falsehoods instead of the truth.
Considering the implications that these kinds of policies have for our communities and youth, it’s important for us to demand more quality journalism from platforms like CNN.
This is just the kind of crap we have grown to expect from outlets like CNN but the fact that they’re allowed to spread disinformation and still call themselves a ‘news network’ is just a JOKE at this point.
