Vice President Kamala Harris has been trying to convince voters to trust her to become the next President of the United States, but it seems like she still has some ways to go. A recent CNN segment featured a group of swing-state voters from Pennsylvania who have expressed hesitation when it comes to supporting Harris’ candidacy. This revelation comes after a set of New York Times/Siena College polls showed that Harris is leading former President Donald Trump in the race for president by a margin of 50% to 46% among likely voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
One of the voters featured on the segment, Michael Pesce, a Republican from Pennsylvania, expressed his doubts about Harris’s policies and stated that he is “still not going to vote for Trump regardless”. He also believes that Harris will be tied to President Biden’s record regardless of what she says or does. This sentiment was echoed by another independent voter, Joan London, who sees Harris as more liberal than she would like. She plans to write in a conservative candidate instead of casting her vote for Harris.
Cynthia Sabatini, another voter from Pennsylvania, said that she is trying to keep an open mind about Harris, but she has concerns about her immigration policy and her treatment of her staff in the past. Sabatini also stated that she plans to write in a candidate this election and would never vote for Trump. Carol Carty, a Republican voter, admitted that she had considered voting for Trump because of his stance on inflation and immigration, but his running mate J.D. Vance’s comments about childless women made her hesitant. Carty also emphasized that she wants to hear more about Harris’s previous job and her goals if she were to become the next Vice President.
These voters’ doubts and concerns about Harris do not come as a surprise, as she has been facing backlash for her handling of the crisis at the border and her controversial policies on immigration. Additionally, the polls show that voters continue to trust Trump more than Harris on handling immigration and the economy. This puts former President Trump in a solid position to beat Harris in the next election, especially considering that the issue agenda favors him. However, political analyst Frank Luntz warns that Trump needs to end his “angry” rhetoric if he wants to secure the win.

The recent CNN segment has revealed that swing-state voters have doubts about Harris and do not see her as a viable candidate for the next President of the United States. Despite her leading in the polls, voters’ concerns about her policies and track record may affect their decision come election day. On the other hand, Trump seems to have an advantage with his stance on key issues such as immigration and the economy. He just needs to tone down his rhetoric to connect with more voters and secure the win.
