The Biden administration’s handling of the US-Mexico border is nothing short of a disgrace. Record numbers of illegal crossings have been reported since he took office, and the situation is only getting worse. But while the federal government takes a hands-off approach, Texas is taking matters into its own hands.
Governor Greg Abbott recently announced the appointment of a border czar and proudly tweeted about the construction of a wall along the border the state is constructing. As a Texan, I couldn’t be more pleased to see my state taking the matter into its own hands. The wall is a strong symbol of Texas’s commitment to securing the border and protecting its citizens.
Footage of the wall construction was shot on Jan. 30 when Abbott held a press conference at the border to announce the appointment of veteran Border Patrol agent Mike Banks to serve as the first-ever border czar. Abbott has criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the border, which has seen record numbers of illegal crossings since the president took office in January 2021.
In December, Abbott announced that the construction of the wall along the state’s border with Mexico would resume. After months of negotiations between state officials and private property owners, an agreement was finally reached to construct infrastructure on their land.
The border wall construction project has been under development for months after the Texas Facilities Commission approved a $167 million contract with Southwest Valley Constructors Co. The project is intended to erect a nearly seven-mile border wall in the Del Rio area.
It’s clear that the federal government needs to take a page out of Texas’s playbook and start taking the border situation seriously. The Biden administration has failed to protect our country from a rising tide of illegal immigration and the dangers it poses. It’s time for the administration to recognize the need for heightened border security and take immediate action to secure the border.
The Biden administration has also shown blatant disregard for the rule of law, allowing criminals and illegal immigrants to slip through the cracks. This kind of corrupt behaviour is unacceptable, and the people of this country deserve better. Democrats need to put their political agendas aside and focus on the safety of our citizens—But I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Texas is leading by example, and it’s time for the federal government to follow suit. We must all come together to protect our borders and our citizens. It’s time for the Biden administration to step up and take action to secure the US-Mexico border.
