Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida had harsh criticism for New York City’s proposed ban on wood and coal-fired pizza ovens. He didn’t mince words and said it was nothing more than an excuse for the left to control people’s behavior.
“They just want to control,” DeSantis said in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters. “You have an itch on the left, they want to control behavior. We saw the same thing with COVID. A lot of that wasn’t about your health, it’s that they wanted to control your behavior. They just don’t want people to be happy and make their own decisions.”
DeSantis has made it very clear that he would be pushing back against the proposed rule. Not only did DeSantis take the opportunity to blast the proposed regulation publicly, but he also took a golden opportunity to help those affected.
The Governor showed full support for affected restaurants by visiting Grimaldi’s, where he placed a pizza in their coal-fired pizza oven. He even went as far as to promise similar tax incentives as the ones in Florida to offset any costs related to the new regulation.
“I can tell you in Florida, when they went after the gas stoves, we just made gas stoves tax free in Florida, no sales tax,” DeSantis said. “We will do something similar for coal fired ovens, so if we need New York City pizza to come to Florida, we’re going to roll out the red carpet for you guys.”
He has made it clear that he will not stand for Democrats’ war on energy independence and is doing what he can to fight back against it.
The Governor took things one step further with his “Biden One Term” T-shirts that are being sold on his campaign’s website. This is likely in response to Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan, which would invest heavily in electric vehicles and other clean energy sources.
It is clear that Governor Ron DeSantis takes the proposed ban very seriously. He is actively fighting back by visiting pizzerias in person and offering to pay the difference with any new regulations. He is showing with these efforts that he will not stand for Democrats’ war on American energy independence. In his words, “Everybody knows the rules.”
