Governor DeSantis Just Announced A Bold Plan To End The Woke Indoctrination of Florida’s Public Universities!
Just when we thought things couldn’t get any crazier, Governor DeSantis has announced a groundbreaking and long-overdue proposal that should put an end to the taxpayer-funded indoctrination of Florida’s public universities.
The proposal, known as the “Stop WOKE Act”, would eliminate the departments, courses, and bureaucracies dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and critical race theory (CRT). This would ensure that students are not subjected to an ideological filter and that Florida’s public universities adhere to the Stop WOKE Act’s definition of DEI, which states that “the criteria for admission to a program or course shall not have the effect of restricting access by persons of a particular race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or marital status.”
Let’s face it, there’s nothing “inclusive” about these woke ideologies. It’s nothing more than a form of divisive, identity politics-driven indoctrination. Governor DeSantis put it best when he said, “We don’t want our students to go through [college] at taxpayer expense and graduate with a degree in Zombie studies.”
To top it off, the bill would also realign college core course requirements to be “rooted in the values of liberty and the western tradition”, and not promote ideological indoctrination. This includes majors like Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies and English department reading groups with Queer Studies.
Instead, Governor DeSantis’s proposal would mandate that universities prioritize graduating students in useful disciplines that prepare them for high-wage jobs, and forbid universities from asking job candidates to demonstrate their commitment to DEI as part of their hiring. Finally, the bill would reorient three institutes at major Florida public universities to provide programming and curricula focused on constitutionalism.
It’s no surprise that the governor’s bold plan has been met with a lot of pushback from the woke crowd. But it’s time to put an end to their divisive agenda and put students first. It’s time to stop the taxpayer-funded indoctrination of our universities, and get back to the basics of providing students with the tools they need to think for themselves, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to prepare for high-wage jobs in a post-COVID economy.
It’s time to put an end to the woke agenda, and support lawmakers willing to help public universities to promote liberty and the western tradition. This is a move in the right direction and will go a long way in providing students with the education they deserve.
