The Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), an organization backed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, is promoting a $6 million election grant program from a left-leaning organization called the Institute for Responsive Government (IRG). The Federalist obtained emails that allegedly show the CTCL urging election officials to participate in the “A More Responsive Government 2024 Grant Program” offered by the IRG. This comes after the CTCL funneled $350 million to states in 2020, with Zuckerberg personally contributing $328 million to the organization.
In an email, the CTCL explains that they are sharing information about the grant program as they commonly do with other nonpartisan resources and funding opportunities that can help election officials with their work. The deadline for receiving these grants is September 13, 2024.
However, many critics are raising concerns about the potential impact of these grants. Ned Jones, director of the Citizens Election Research Center, believes that these efforts should be banned in all states. He argues that the use of progressive activist billionaires’ funding could influence election offices and implement a left-wing agenda, ultimately impacting the outcome of elections.
The IRG, which is run by the left-leaning nonprofit New Venture Fund, specializes in election policy. The New Venture Fund is financially supported by a variety of left-wing donors, including The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation. It is also supervised by the left-wing nonprofit managing company, Arabella Advisors.

The IRG is just one of the many programs operated by the New Venture Fund, which also includes initiatives like the Election Integrity Fund, Democracy Fund, and the Climate Fund. The grants offered through the “A More Responsive Government 2024 Grant Program” range from $6,000 to $1.35 million and are available to states such as Colorado, Delaware, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, and Washington, D.C.
The potential impact of these grants on the 2024 election has raised concerns among many, particularly when considering the significant funding and influence from left-wing organizations and billionaires. The involvement of a politically-motivated nonprofit in the election process is concerning for those who prioritize fair and nonpartisan elections.
