A recent report from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) revealed that the FBI had 26 confidential human sources (CHS) present in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021, during the Capitol riot. However, the media has failed to report on the fact that these sources were not undercover employees and were not authorized to enter restricted areas or break the law. In fact, one CHS even provided information on the travel plans of right-wing groups before the event, showing that the FBI was actively monitoring potential threats.
According to the OIG report, the FBI had tasked three of these CHSs with reporting on potential domestic terrorism subjects in D.C. on Jan. 6. And while some of these sources did enter the Capitol or a restricted area, none have been prosecuted to date. This is a crucial detail that the liberal media has failed to mention, instead focusing on the report’s criticism of the FBI’s lack of coordination and confusion in the lead-up to the riot.
But let’s not forget that the FBI has a history of using informants and undercover agents to infiltrate right-wing groups, as was seen in the plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. And during the Capitol riot, there were multiple informants inside the Proud Boys, a right-wing group that has been unfairly demonized by the media. Enrique Tarrio, the group’s former leader, was even a known informant for law enforcement.

Despite the media’s biased reporting, the FBI has accepted the OIG’s recommendations for potential process improvements in future events. And while the report does raise questions about the FBI’s actions and coordination leading up to the riot, it is clear that the media has once again failed to provide a balanced and accurate representation of the facts.
The OIG concluded that the FBI failed to do a formal canvass for Confidential Human Source (CHS) information in advance of January 6.

In the end, the OIG’s report only shows that the FBI was actively monitoring potential threats and that there were no undercover FBI agents or informants instigating or participating in the events on Jan. 6. But the liberal media will continue to twist the narrative to fit their agenda, demonizing the Proud Boys and right-wing groups while ignoring the truth.
