The panel on ABC News exploded into a heated debate on Sunday as former Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called out the Democrats for their harmful rhetoric leading up to the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in July.
Priebus was quick to dismiss former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile’s “monologue” praising the Biden-Harris administration’s response to Trump being shot on July 13th. He reminded Brazile of the dangerous and baseless accusations Democrats had made against Trump prior to the first attempt on his life, branding him as “a threat to democracy.”
“Don’t sit here and act holier than thou, like you have the moral high ground in this. Because you don’t,” Priebus fired back as Brazile attempted to interrupt him.
The former RNC chairman pointed out that it was this type of rhetoric that was causing Democrats to lose and predicted that Vice President Kamala Harris would lose as well. This sentiment was met with resistance from host George Stephanopoulos, who pushed Priebus to explicitly clear Democrats of any blame in his remarks.
But Priebus stood his ground, stating, “I would not blame Democrats.” This, however, was not enough for Stephanopoulos as he urged Priebus to “just say it’s wrong.”
“I just said it, okay?” Priebus retorted. “But it’s also wrong to paint the President of the United States, President Trump, as a threat to democracy that’s going to end the United States of America.”
Clearly agitated, Priebus questioned the effects of such rhetoric on the American people, asking, “What does that do to people’s heads when you do that?”
As Brazile continued to attack Priebus for Republicans’ stance on immigration, he tried to steer the conversation back to the attempted assassination of Trump. However, Brazile persisted in talking over him, leading to a back-and-forth exchange between the two.
But it was Brazile’s harsh words about the “floodgate of lies” that drew the most ire from Priebus. He quickly reminded her of the lies Democrats spread about Trump, such as the false claim that he was monitoring women’s pregnancies through Project 2025.
“Project 2025 has nothing to do with President Trump,” Priebus asserted. “But you know what? It’s a good talking point for the Democrats and they keep saying it.”
The panel’s heated conversation showcased the deep divide between the two major parties in the United States. While Brazile and other Democrats attempted to shift the blame and paint the GOP as the ones spreading lies, Priebus stood firm in defending Trump and calling out the Democrats’ dangerous rhetoric.
It’s time for the “floodgate of lies” that the Democrats continue to spew to stop. Baseless accusations and fearmongering must be replaced with thoughtful and productive discourse. And as for President Trump, the truth is clear – he is not a threat to democracy, but rather a strong leader who has and will continue to put America first.
It’s time to put an end to the ridiculous and damaging narrative pushed by the Democrats and come together as a country to move forward.
