Former Utah clerks indicted for helping illegal aliens evade ICE

Two former Utah court clerks are facing federal charges after prosecutors say they helped illegal aliens avoid arrest by ICE at a courthouse in Logan.

The Justice Department said Jennifer Joma, 27, and Lauren Kelsey Morrow, 26, were indicted on June 3, 2026. Both women are from Logan, Utah.

“Joma and Morrow are charged with conspiracy to transport and harbor illegal aliens, harboring illegal aliens, and obstruction of proceedings before departments and agencies. Joma is also charged with transporting illegal aliens,” the DOJ said.

According to authorities, the incident happened at the Logan City Municipal Justice Court when an ICE officer came to arrest an illegal alien who was at the courthouse for a hearing. Prosecutors say the officer had an administrative warrant and waited outside after leaving the secure area.

The allegations say Joma and Morrow realized ICE was there and then started checking court databases to figure out who on the docket was not a U.S. citizen. Prosecutors say they identified several non-citizens and intercepted them before they could leave on their own.

From there, the pair allegedly guided the people through a secure area, down hallways, and out a back door so ICE could not make the arrest. Prosecutors say the target ICE was after was among the people helped out of the courthouse.

The DOJ also says the women laughed and made obscene gestures toward a surveillance camera after the first trip out the back door. The complaint says Morrow used her middle finger toward the camera. On a second trip, prosecutors say Joma drove away with three illegal aliens in her car and later returned to work alone.

The federal case puts a spotlight on what prosecutors describe as a deliberate effort to block immigration enforcement inside a public courthouse. It also raises a basic question about trust. Court workers are supposed to keep things moving, not help people dodge lawful arrest.

Joma and Morrow are now facing serious charges in federal court. If the allegations hold up, this was not a minor lapse. It was a direct move to sidestep immigration law and help people get away before ICE could do its job.
