This is something you might have missed during all of the commotions this weekend. Trump’s former vice president called for the cowardice AG to come out of hiding and explain himself before the American people.
On Saturday, Mike Pence, who is seeking the 2024 presidency, urged Attorney General Merrick Garland to “stand before the American people” and explain why former President Donald Trump was issued an indictment. Pence called on Garland to forgo hiding behind Special Counsel Jack Smith, as Smith was the operator of the documents inquiry. The documents investigation led to a 49-page indictment, listing 31 counts of breaches to the Espionage Act.
Pence spoke at the North Carolina GOP convention, and implied for the American people to pray for both Trump and his family, and for the nation at present, which is deeply divided on the issue. The former Vice President vowed to “clean house” in the Department of Justice if he were to become the President of the United States in 2024.
His request for Garland to give an explanation comes after the FBI’s raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, which resulted in more than 300 documents being seized. It was Wednesday evening when counsel for Trump received a letter from federal prosecutors, alerting him that the beloved leader was the target of their investigation. On Friday, Trump aide Walter Nauta was also charged for his involvement in the same case.
This is the first time an American president has been charged with a federal offense, and Tuesday at 3 PM, Trump is expected to appear in court in Miami. Pence called for the truth to become known, and that each person can deem their own verdict on the situation. He noted that it is “an unprecedented action,” and asked for Garland to give an explanation.
The outcome of this case may decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential race between Pence and the current President Joe Biden. Whichever side prevails will undoubtedly be the frontrunner in the next election, as the outcome of this trial will serve as a major indicator of the nation’s sentiment towards the Trump administration.
Pence and Trump do have their differences, especially following the 2020 election results—But what the DOJ has done is unite officials from all sides. The fact will always remain that you cannot have a biased justice system and try to tell people that it is just. Hillary Clinton, Biden, and even Pence should all be on trial alongside Trump, if what they’re doing isn’t politically motivated.
Accusing him of espionage is Garland’s version of ‘jumping the shark’. What Trump did do, storing classified documents outside of the White House, that’s nothing neither new or unique to his former position. If they plan to suddenly start holding people accountable, then they better hold everyone to the same standard.
