Former Fox News host Geraldo Rivera recently took to his X account to dismiss the concerns of Americans about illegal immigration. In his post, Rivera claimed that “many of the folks” who are worried about illegal aliens have never actually encountered one.

This statement is ignorant and absurd. In reality, Joe Biden’s open-door policies have allowed more illegal aliens into the country than the entire legal population of Arizona and 36 other states. Even in 2021, during Biden’s first year in office, his lax immigration policies led to more illegals entering the country than the populations of 11 states. And by last year, that number grew to a shocking 22 states, as reported by the Daily Signal.

To suggest that such a large number of illegal aliens could go unnoticed and unobserved by “many folks” in America is ridiculous. These individuals are living among us, in our stores, on our streets, in our airports, and even in our schools. No matter where you live in the country, it is highly likely that you have encountered an illegal alien at some point. And for those living in border states or major cities with large populations of illegal aliens, it would be nearly impossible to avoid encountering them.

However, Rivera’s statement did not go unchallenged. Many people took to social media to criticize him for downplaying the impact of illegal immigration and the dangers posed by unvetted individuals entering our country. One user pointed out the tragic case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old Georgia coed who was allegedly murdered by an illegal alien who was allowed to enter the US without consequences. Others shared headlines of stories about illegal immigrants committing heinous crimes, disproving Rivera’s claim that “many folks” have never seen one.

One user called Rivera out for his “arrogance” and challenged him to prove his support for illegal immigrants by inviting an unvetted family to live with him. She also pointed out the financial burden that is placed on American taxpayers to support illegal aliens who contribute nothing to our country.

This is not the first time Rivera has promoted a soft approach to illegal immigration. In 2007, he and former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly engaged in a heated argument about the impact of illegal aliens on our nation.

Rivera’s stance on illegal immigration is unacceptable and dangerous. By downplaying the issue and ignoring the crimes committed by illegal aliens, he is putting American citizens at risk. It is essential to acknowledge the harm caused by illegal immigration and to take action to secure our borders and protect our communities. Geraldo Rivera’s dismissive attitude towards this issue is irresponsible and must be called out.
