The parents of a beloved fallen American soldier have strongly criticized the Biden Administration for their “doubling down” on the success of the chaotic Kabul evacuation. Mark Schmitz, father of Marine Lance Cpl. Gerald Schmitz, expressed his disappointment in the Democratic Party during his appearance on Fox News Tuesday.
“The Administration just keeps doubling down on what they call a ‘success’,” Schmitz said. “The Democratic Party may give you their condolences, but they are quick to play the blame game instead of looking at the bigger picture. As more Marines step forward, we are learning more about the situation.”
Despite the disaster that was the Kabul evacuation would later be labeled as “the correct policy choice” by State Department officials during a press briefing held just two days after the Gold Star parents vented their frustrations at a Congressional forum, the Schmitzes have continued to push for answers.
The Taliban marked the second anniversary of the evacuation in a celebration of the “great victory.” Following this event, voices of disapproval began calling for Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Mark Milley to resign.
Schmitz verified that though his son can never be brought back, and the event itself cannot be reversed, steps must be taken to ensure this heartbreaking incident does not occur again; “We just want to make sure none of our military personnel are ever put into a situation where they can be killed for no reason.”
The Biden Administration has failed in honoring its commitment to Gold Star families, whose brave loved ones gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The administration’s callous call of the chaotic evacuation a “success” shows a complete lack of empathy and respect for GoldStar families and their cherished memories of lost family members. Due to Biden’s empty condolences and flimsy attempt to redeem the situation with easy successes, the American people have lost faith in the Administration’s ability to honor its commitment to American forces.
The Administration should take responsibility and accountability for putting our military personnel in harms way without a strategy or plan in action. Leaders of this country have a duty and an obligation to protect their citizens and this story of a chaotic and poorly executed evacuation in Kabul should serve as a warning sign and provide motivation for the Biden administration to stay focused on being a responsible and effective leader for our military.
By showing their strength in honor, respect and appreciation for our men and women in uniform, the Biden administration can once more win the people of America’s faith and admiration.
