Michigan pastor Will Johnson was arrested and subsequently fired from 2|42 Community Church in Brighton after confessing to placing a hidden camera in a church bathroom, according to a statement released by the executive pastor of ministry operations, Eric Rauch. The Detroit News reported that Johnson, who served as the worship pastor director at the church, was arrested last Friday after a church staff member discovered the hidden camera in a non-public, unisex bathroom located in the backstage area of the church.
According to Eric Rauch, Johnson admitted to installing the hidden camera when confronted by church leadership. He was immediately dismissed from his position as a result. Upon his arrest, Johnson reportedly confessed to Livingston County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) detectives that he had intermittently installed the camera over the past two years in order to target specific individuals using the bathroom.
In a statement to The Detroit News, Rauch expressed shock and deep sadness at the situation, stating that the protection, safety, and privacy of all individuals who enter the church is their top priority. He also assured that the church is fully cooperating with the LCSO investigation and has taken proactive steps, such as engaging a third-party investigator, to ensure the safety of their facilities.
According to LCSO records, Johnson has been charged with evidence tampering, surveilling an unclothed individual, and employing a computer for criminal activity. He currently remains in custody at Livingston County Jail on a $250,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on September 24th.

If convicted, Johnson could face up to a four-year prison term for the tampering charge, up to a two-year term for the surveillance charge, and up to a two-year term for the computer charge. This disturbing case highlights the breach of trust and violation of privacy that occurred within the walls of 2|42 Community Church, a place that should have been a safe and sanctified space for all who entered.
The actions of Pastor Will Johnson are appalling and have no place within a community of faith. It is disheartening to see someone in a position of leadership and authority betray the trust placed in them by the church and its members.
The consequences of his actions will have a lasting impact on those affected, and it serves as a reminder to always remain vigilant and protect the safety and privacy of every individual within our places of worship.
