In a shocking display of arrogance and disregard for the American people, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was caught on live television throwing a tantrum and taking a vulgar shot at colleague Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky for delaying the passage of a massive spending bill aimed at funding Ukraine’s endless war with Russia.
It has become painfully clear that our elected officials do not serve the American people, but rather a ruling oligarchy. The unfiltered and authentic rant by Fetterman, directed at a CNN reporter, reveals his true feelings towards his job – that it inconveniences him and takes time away from his personal schedule. He even kept looking at his phone while speaking, implying that he had better things to do.
Fetterman’s blatant resentment towards having to go to work to decide on allocating billions of dollars to another country is truly alarming. It is not only disrespectful to his colleague, but also to the American people who expect senators to guard their interests. Evidently, Fetterman does not believe this to be his responsibility. He even put the word “work” in air quotes, as if it is an absurd concept to him.
The senator’s lack of interest and engagement in his duties is despicable. Instead of focussing on the task at hand, he seemed more concerned with his phone and his own personal schedule. He even referred to Paul’s actions as “bad performance art,” completely disregarding the fact that his colleague was using a legitimate and accepted tactic within Senate rules to draw attention to the issue.
Despite Paul’s filibuster causing delay, it is important to note that only 29 senators out of 100 voted against the bill. This means that the vast majority of our elected officials are more than happy to send billions of dollars of American taxpayers’ money to fund a foreign war, instead of using it to benefit their own citizens. It is a stark reminder that the interests of the American people are not a priority for these senators.
In response to the bill’s passing, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has already made it clear that the House will not vote on a foreign-aid bill unless it also includes funds for meaningful border security. This further highlights the fact that our elected officials are not acting in the best interests of their own citizens.

It is an insult to the American people that a handful of politicians are making decisions that affect our country’s future, while the rest of the population has no say in the matter. In a true democracy or constitutional republic, it is inconceivable that 100 random Americans would vote to send $60.1 billion to a foreign country. This leads to the only plausible conclusion – that our government is run by an oligarchy that does not represent the people it is meant to serve.
Fetterman’s tantrum and vulgar outburst serve as a reminder that our government is not working for the American people. Instead, it is an oligarchy where politicians have better things to do than show up for work. The American people deserve representatives who will prioritize their interests and make decisions that benefit them, not just the elite ruling class. It is time for a change.
