CBS Mornings had a wild day Tuesday after 500 illegal immigrants were dropped off in their beloved New York City. Co-host Gayle King was astonished that the city had to open a facility to house a mere 3,000 people. King reported the “humanitarian crisis” with shock, yet the number of illegal immigrants being dropped off was a drop in the bucket compared to what American border towns were stuck with.
King opened the segment by discussing how liberal cities, which had been encouraging illegal immigration for years, were finally getting their comeuppance. She lamented, “The U.S. is facing a humanitarian crisis over where to place migrants who are seeking asylum in this country. In New York City, a new center has just opened up on Randall’s Island. It’s expected to house – listen to this number – up to 3,000 migrants. Other cities like Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago are also trying to manage an overwhelming number of new arrivals.”
National correspondent Jericka Duncan went on the defense, as if the media had not been duplicitous in their coverage of the issue. During her segment, she said, “more than 500 migrants arrived in New York City on Sunday alone” and that the city “could spend upwards of $12 billion over three years without more help from the state.” She also highlighted the bickering between Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams over who was to blame for the crisis. Duncan declared the situation “out of control”, with the implication being that cities like New York are finally being affected by the crisis.
However, it appears the media has been slow to recognize the issue, with them only wondering about the crisis now that it has entered their “big cities”. Duncan and co-host Tony Dokoupil even teaming up to suggest a work permit change at the federal level to help out migrants fill jobs in the city.
The liberal obsession with open borders ostensibly left the American people in border towns holding the bag but the Democratic party and liberal media outlets only acknowledged the issue when blue cities started feeling the disproportionate burden. The plight of millions of other American people in these towns that had to bear the brunt of the crisis have been forgotten while Biden and the cohort of liberal Democrats have been fixated solely on their own cities and how they can spin it.
It’s clear that while the media is finally covering the crisis, they still have not realized how they made it worse by ignoring the real dangers and pain associated with having open borders. The botched treatment of the border crisis has been exasperated by the Biden Administration as their policy decisions attempt to sweep the devastating effects on towns with smaller budgets and resources.
Watch
What we needed was a plan to help these towns protect their citizens and resources, not one that would simply slough the problem off onto the city and state “big shots”.
