Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican Representative from Georgia, confronted President Joe Biden on Thursday as he made his way to deliver the State of the Union address. She handed him a pin and asked him to “Say her name”, referring to Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was allegedly killed by an illegal alien on Feb. 22. Biden responded by saying that he knows how to say her name.
Greene shared a video of her encounter with Biden on X, a social media platform, and expressed her disappointment that the president refused to say Laken Riley’s name. The Hill reported that the alleged killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, entered the country illegally in 2022 and was apprehended by the Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas.
However, he was released into the country due to Biden’s changes in immigration policies, including ending the “remain in Mexico” policy, stopping the construction of the border wall, and reintroducing catch-and-release.
As a result of these policy shifts, there has been an unprecedented surge in illegal border crossings, with over 7 million recorded in the first three years of Biden’s presidency. In response, the House passed the Laken Riley Act in honor of the slain student. If this bill becomes law, it will require the detention of any migrant charged with burglary or theft. According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Ibarra had already been arrested in Athens, Georgia for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart, but failed to appear in court.
Joe Biden has no excuse.

Greene’s confrontation with Biden highlights the devastating consequences of his reckless immigration policies. The tragic death of Laken Riley could have been prevented if Ibarra had not been released into the country. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stronger border security and immigration laws that prioritize the safety and well-being of American citizens.
The fact that Greene chose to confront the president during his State of the Union address shows her unwavering commitment to standing up for the American people. By handing him a pin with Laken Riley’s name on it, she wanted to remind Biden of the human cost of his policies and demand accountability for the lives lost due to his negligence.
Biden’s refusal to say Laken Riley’s name also speaks volumes about his lack of empathy and disregard for the victims of illegal immigration. It is telling that he chose to ignore Greene’s plea and instead continued on his way to deliver his speech. This is yet another example of how the Biden administration is failing to address the crisis at the border and protect the American people.
Say her name, President Biden!

Greene’s confrontation with Biden serves as a powerful reminder that the lives of American citizens should not be sacrificed for the sake of political agendas. The Laken Riley Act is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to secure our borders and protect our communities from the dangers of illegal immigration. It is time for the Biden administration to prioritize the safety and security of the American people above all else.
