In response, the House passed the Laken Riley Act in honor of the slain student. If this bill becomes law, it will require the detention of any migrant charged with burglary or theft. According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Ibarra had already been arrested in Athens, Georgia for shoplifting at a Wal-Mart, but failed to appear in court.
