McCarthy Rings The Bell Of Change: ‘The Era Of Trusting Communist China Is Over’

With the House voting overwhelmingly to form a new Select Committee on China Competition, it is proof that the era of trusting China is over. Republicans and Democrats alike have agreed that the Chinese Communist Party cannot be trusted and that their aggressive actions are damaging democracy and freedom worldwide.

“We spent decades passing policies that welcomed China into the global system. In return, China has exported oppression, aggression and anti-Americanism,” McCarthy said. “Today, the power of its military and economy are growing at the expense of freedom and democracy worldwide.”

And while House Democrats have expressed their concerns over the committee, they have been all too willing to welcome the CCP into the global system, allowing them to export their oppressive agenda.

“President [Donald] Trump repeatedly mislabeled COVID with racist language,” McGovern said. “Such rhetoric coincided with spikes in hate-based acts of violence and discrimination against people of Chinese or Asian origin across our country. This language has no place on this committee or anywhere in Congress.”

Speaker Kevin McCarthy has promised that the committee will focus on finding bipartisan solutions, but will the Democrats be willing to work together to bring back the jobs that have gone to China, or will they just sit back and bicker with the Republicans?

It’s time for the Democrats to take a stand and show that they are willing to protect American interests, not just those of the CCP. It’s time for the Democrats to demonstrate that they are serious about confronting the challenge posed by China and that they are willing to put their money where their mouth is.

The mission of the committee is to investigate the status of the CCP’s economic, technological and security progress and its competition with the United States, and the House Speaker has promised to look into finding a way to bring back the hundreds of thousands of jobs that have gone to China.
