Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy seemed to hint at a possible impeachment inquiry against Attorney General Merrick Garland after bombshell testimony from an IRS whistleblower Sunday.
“If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ,” tweeted McCarthy.
The whistleblower, Gary Shapley, alleged that President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, had threatened a Chinese business associate in Biden’s presence. The text message exchange was found after the investigation began in 2018, according to Shapley.
The text reads: “I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me, and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”
The White House strongly denied the allegations against Biden, maintaining that “the President was not in business with his son.” Though the Biden administration may deny any knowledge of Hunter’s actions, questions remain as to why a text like this would even exist in the first place.
The implication of the text message exchange is one of potential wrongdoing by the President, and the fact that a third-party found it with suspicions of wrongdoings is further concerning. After all, the President is the highest office in the Land. Such knowledge of potential wrongdoing by the President of the United States is troubling, and demands further investigation.
Further investigation is in order to get to the facts in this matter, and U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee. Speaker McCarthy is right in that such potential crimes should be the subject of a possible impeachment inquiry. The American public deserves to know the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. The Biden-Harris Administration has a responsibility to demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability.
We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities. U.S. Attorney David Weiss must provide answers to the House Judiciary Committee.

If the allegations of the whistleblower are proven true, it will certainly be grounds for an impeachment inquiry. The American people deserve to know the full picture of any possible wrongdoing, and should receive answers to important questions that arise from the testimony of the whistleblower. It is essential that the truth come out so that justice can be properly served.
