Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, like many in his party, is scrambling to understand why young men are overwhelmingly supporting President Donald Trump. In a revealing moment, Walz turned to his high school-aged son, Gus, for insight—and what he learned should be a wake-up call for the out-of-touch liberal establishment.
“Donald Trump Understands Belonging”
Walz admitted that his son explained Trump’s appeal isn’t just about policy—it’s about something deeper. “He said, ‘Dad, a lot of these young guys [aren’t] voting on the policy issues.’ And he wasn’t dissing them, he said they may know the policy issues, but most of them don’t. They’re doing it because there’s a sense of excitement, a sense of thrill in this, it’s entertainment or whatever,” Walz recounted. But rather than dismissing this as shallow, Trump harnesses it, giving young men something Democrats have failed to offer: a sense of belonging.
“If you don’t give a kid a place to belong, they’ll go flying away,” Walz said, unwittingly exposing the Democrats’ biggest failure. While the left sneers at Trump’s rallies as “clown shows,” they ignore the powerful tribal energy that unites his supporters. “Donald Trump understands belonging, he understands groups because look at it, he gives them a uniform, the red hat. He gives them some chance, some talking points, whatever, it’s not all that different than when we built sports teams in high school. You belong, you’re part of this.”
The Left’s Condescension Is Backfiring
The liberal media’s elitist disdain for Trump’s supporters—painting them as ignorant or easily manipulated—only fuels the disconnect. While Democrats lecture young men on what they should care about, Trump meets them where they are. His appearances on wildly popular podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience and Theo Von’s show prove he’s willing to engage with Gen Z and young men on their turf.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris blew her chance to connect. Rogan revealed that her campaign demanded he travel to her for an interview rather than appearing in his studio—a tone-deaf move that perfectly encapsulates the Democratic Party’s arrogance. “We extended an open invitation,” Rogan said, but Harris couldn’t be bothered.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Trump’s historic gains with young men, Black and Hispanic voters, and working-class Americans speak for themselves:
-
56% of young men (18-29) backed Trump in 2024.
-
55% of all male voters chose Trump over Harris.
-
55% of Hispanic men supported Trump—the first Republican to win this demographic.
The left can’t spin these numbers away. While Democrats obsess over identity politics and divisive rhetoric, Trump has built a movement that welcomes young men instead of shaming them.
