Frederick Douglass Moorefield Jr., a high-ranking government official, was arrested on charges of promoting and profiting from an illegal dogfighting ring that operated for over two decades. Moorefield, who worked as a deputy chief information officer for the Secretary of Defense, was accused of participating in the cruel and abusive practice of dogfighting, which often leads to the suffering and death of innocent animals.
Authorities raided Moorefield’s home and the home of his friend Mario D. Flythe, finding evidence of the illegal dogfighting activities. According to reports, jumper cables used to execute dogs and weighted collars and heavy chains to make them stronger fighters were discovered at Moorefield’s residence. Additionally, a device used to forcibly impregnate female dogs was found, further supporting the disturbing nature of the alleged dogfighting ring.
The FBI and the Department of Agriculture had been investigating the “DMV Board” dogfighting ring for years before the arrests. The investigation was sparked by the discovery of two dead dogs in a plastic dog food bag near Moorefield’s home, along with mail addressed to him. According to FBI Special Agent Ryan C. Daly, who wrote the affidavit leading to the arrests, Moorefield had been involved in the dogfighting enterprise since 2002.
During their interviews with Daly, both Moorefield and Flythe revealed the names they gave their respective operating bases for the alleged dogfighting ring. Moorefield called his operation “Geehad Kennels,” while Flythe named his “Razor Sharp Kennels.” These names, along with the evidence found during the raids, paint a troubling picture of the extent and severity of the dogfighting ring.
A Pentagon spokesman confirmed that the Department of Defense was aware of Moorefield’s arrest and that he is no longer working in the workplace. However, he declined to comment further on the matter, citing it as a personnel issue. This news has shocked and saddened many, as it is deeply disturbing that an individual in such a high-level position would be involved in such a heinous and illegal activity.
