Rep. Luna Destroyed FEMA For Prioritizing Migrants During Devastation

In a letter obtained exclusively by The Daily Caller, Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna expressed her concern to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell regarding the use of taxpayer funds on illegal immigrants while her district, impacted by Hurricane Helene, braces for the incoming Hurricane Milton.

Paulina Luna’s main concern is the “mismanagement of taxpayer funds” and she urges for immediate action to be taken by FEMA. She specifically asks for assurances from the agency that no more funds will be used to cover the costs of the illegal immigrant crisis. She also demands that any new FEMA funding be solely used for disaster recovery and not for the migrant crisis.

The Congresswoman asks for transparency in her letter, requesting information on the amount of FEMA money spent since January 2021 on the illegal immigrant crisis and the steps being taken to recover those funds.

With the incoming Hurricane Milton and the damage caused by Hurricane Helene, FEMA is facing a shortage of employees. This shortage was highlighted by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who warned in early October that FEMA may not have enough funds to last the hurricane season. This is a cause for concern as FEMA has already spent over $1 billion on the migrant crisis since the Fall of 2022.

As Hurricane Milton, a category 5 storm, moves closer to the U.S, the letter from Paulina Luna serves as a reminder that the agency’s primary responsibility is to provide aid and disaster relief to U.S citizens affected by natural disasters. This includes the people of her district and other areas impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s letter to FEMA expresses her concern over the use of taxpayer funds on illegal immigrants and calls for transparency and assurance that these funds will not be used for anything other than disaster recovery. As FEMA continues to face resource shortages, it is crucial that the agency follows through on its responsibility to help those affected by natural disasters, without diverting funds for other purposes.
