Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy warned that GOP lawmakers may block Trump’s agenda in secret. During an interview with Todd Starnes, Roy revealed that excuses are already surfacing, predicting a quiet resistance to Trump within the party. Roy called for pressure to be applied to ensure Trump’s agenda is carried out.
“I think Republicans in Congress will give lip service to Trump, but behind the scenes they will be stonewalling,” Roy said. “Truth is, we’re already hearing excuses…we can’t do mass deportations.” Roy pointed to recent legislative actions that could bankrupt necessary programs if they continue. He urged his party to change their ways or risk losing power.
“There’s a large block here who want to do it,” Roy said, referring to advancing Trump’s policies. “But some people here are in for a rude awakening.” Roy also expressed his frustration with tax dollars funding competition for his private business, such as NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. He called for Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s plan for the Department of Government Efficiency to dismantle this funding.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act, which aims to abolish two outdated rules that diminish benefits for public sector workers, according to Yahoo Finance. Initially introduced in 2023, the bill now advances to the Senate with substantial bipartisan backing and, if enacted, will incur an estimated cost of $196 billion over 10 years.
“I own a news talk radio station in Memphis, Tennessee. One of the things that angers me is the money I earn from my private business goes to fund competition across the street over at NPR, and I would love, I’ve already sent a message to Elon and Vivek, I would love for them to just dismantle the funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting,” Roy said.
Roy also voiced his support for a substantial faction within the GOP that is eager to advance Trump’s policies, but warned that there is a “large block” within the party that needs to get on board or risk losing power.
It is clear that Roy is not afraid to speak out against the status quo and push for change within his own party in order to support Trump’s agenda.
