The women on ABC’s talk show, The View, are known for their outrageous and often irrational political opinions. This was taken to a new extreme on Thursday’s episode when the majority of the cast defended President Biden’s dog Commander after it attacked 24 people. They even went as far as to suggest that the animal was justified in its actions and that the victims should have known better.
During the segment, moderator Whoopi Goldberg introduced the topic with a dramatic tone. She reported, “A Secret Service report was released about a member of the Biden family causing trouble at the White House – their dog. Commander, the report found, has bitten at least 24 people.”
Goldberg then went on to defend the poorly trained dog, suggesting that he must have seen something that others didn’t. She asked, “What did he see that nobody else saw?” Co-host Sunny Hostin (whose ancestors owned slaves) also joined in, suggesting that Commander was simply doing his job as a guard dog and protecting the family from potential threats. Even faux-conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in, calling the dog “cute” as a picture of him garnered “awws” from the audience.
However, co-host Sara Haines was the lone voice of reason, questioning why the dog hadn’t been euthanized yet. She also noted the severity of the situation, saying, “You might have missed the 24-bite part of this story when you ‘aww’.”
Joy Behar, always one to make a joke out of any serious topic, quipped, “I have a question for the Republicans, how can we blame this on Hunter Biden? There’s got to be a way.” Hostin quickly brushed off Haines’ concerns by claiming that since Commander was only attacking Secret Service agents, it wasn’t a big deal.
In a bizarre turn, both Goldberg and Hostin simulated the dog barking and suggested that the agents should have known better just by looking at him and knowing his name. “All you have to do is look at him,” claimed Goldberg. Hostin added, “Listen to his name, ‘Commander!’ He’s in charge! He’s a guard dog!”
They went on to argue that it’s simply in a dog’s nature to behave this way, as Hostin stated, “A lot of people just don’t understand some things when it comes to dogs, it’s just innate. It’s part of their nature.”
In the end, the women of The View displayed their inability to take a serious issue seriously and instead resorted to mocking and defending a dangerously aggressive animal. While dogs may have natural instincts, it is the responsibility of their owners to properly train and control them. Unfortunately, in this case, it seems that the President’s family has failed to do so, and innocent people have been left with the consequences.
