Recently unearthed video has exposed Vice President Kamala Harris as a hypocrite when it comes to immigration policy. In a 2018 parade in Los Angeles, Harris can be seen chanting alongside a crowd, “Up, up with education. Down, down with deportation.” This footage further demonstrates her shift in tone on the issue since becoming the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.
The chant took place at the Kingdom Day Parade, an event celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Harris was listed as a “grand marshall” of the parade, confirming the time and date of the video. In an interview with a reporter during the parade, Harris took a shot at then-President Donald Trump, saying, “And in the midst of time where there are supposed-leaders who are sowing hate and division, it is really important to remember we, as a country, are so much better than that.” This shows that Harris was using this event to criticize and oppose Trump’s immigration policies.
During her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, Harris was among the majority of candidates who raised their hands when asked if they supported the decriminalization of illegal border crossings. This stance is in stark contrast to her participation in the chant for the abolition of deportations in 2018. Her position on the border wall also shifted, from calling it “un-American” and a “stupid waste of money” to supporting more Border Patrol agents and portraying herself as a tough prosecutor who cracked down on cartels and gang members.
Harris’ flip-flops on immigration do not stop there. In 2019, she pledged her support for taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries for illegal immigrants being held in ICE detention. However, since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, she has supported a more hardline stance on immigration, including consequences for those who cross the border illegally. This is a clear shift in her values for the sake of political gain.
It is no surprise that Harris has changed her tune on immigration now that she is the potential Democratic presidential nominee. This is in line with her previous actions as a prosecutor in California, where she opposed certain immigration policies and prosecuted undocumented immigrants. However, her recent hypocrisy and blatant reversal of positions show that she is willing to sacrifice her morals for political gain.
Trump has been consistent in his policies and beliefs regarding immigration. He has continually pushed for a secure border and stricter immigration enforcement, as well as a merit-based system for legal immigration. He has also worked towards building a border wall and ending chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program. Despite facing constant opposition and criticism, Trump has remained steadfast in his determination to secure our borders and protect American citizens.

Harris’ actions and words during the Kingdom Day Parade in 2018 and her subsequent change in stance on immigration further prove that she cannot be trusted to uphold her values and promises. In contrast, Trump has shown time and time again that he stands for what he believes in and will fight for the American people. When it comes to immigration, the choice is clear: Trump’s consistent and strong record or Harris’ hypocrisy and political posturing.
