President Donald Trump has taken action against liberal media and commentator George Stephanopoulos with a defamation lawsuit. Trump has accused ABC News and Stephanopoulos of falsely implying that he has been found liable for rape in a recent interview with Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina.
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Miami on Monday, and it is a clear response to the biased and baseless attacks made by the liberal media against the former president.
During a March 10 interview on “This Week,” Stephanopoulos confronted Mace about her endorsement of Trump, asking how she could support a former president who has been found liable for rape by “judges and two separate juries.” Mace, being a rape victim herself, pushed back against this statement, calling out Stephanopoulos for trying to shame her and for spreading false information.
In reality, no jury has ever found Trump liable for rape, and it was a mistake for Stephanopoulos to suggest otherwise.
But that didn’t stop him or his network…
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan made it clear to the jury in the 2023 civil case, in which writer E. Jean Carroll sued Trump for sexually abusing her in 1996 and defaming her, that they could find Trump liable for rape. However, the jury ultimately did not make this finding. In a later memorandum, Kaplan stated that while it may not have technically been rape under New York law, evidence presented in the trial showed that Trump’s behavior violated the common and other legal definitions of rape. It is important to note that Trump was not found liable for rape, despite the misleading information spread by the liberal media.
Trump’s attorney Alejandro “Alex” Brito explained that Stephanopoulos’ comments on “This Week” were a clear defamation of character. He also mentioned that the legal team reached out to ABC and ABC News immediately after the segment aired, asking for an apology and a retraction. However, instead of acknowledging their mistake, ABC simply changed the headline of the story, failing to take responsibility for spreading false information.
In a separate interview conducted after the trial with Carroll, Stephanopoulos asked her how she felt when it was announced in the courtroom that Trump was not found liable for rape. This shows that the anchor was not simply using the term “rape” inadvertently, but rather he was fully aware of the facts and still chose to use it repeatedly, ignoring the truth. It is clear that liberal media outlets like ABC and commentators like Stephanopoulos are willing to twist the facts and spread false information in order to attack and discredit Trump.
It is no surprise that Trump has taken action against ABC and Stephanopoulos for defamation. They have continuously pushed a biased and false narrative, using their platform to attack and spread lies about the former president.
The recent lawsuit is a clear message that Trump will not stand for this kind of dishonesty and will fight back against the liberal media’s attempts to tarnish his reputation. This is just one more example of the ongoing battle between the conservative and liberal media, and it is up to the American people to seek out the truth and not fall victim to the biased and misleading narratives pushed by the liberal media.
