Trump Name to Top Australia’s Tallest Tower

Big skyline news from the Gold Coast. The Trump Organization has signed on to a project that will immediately become the tallest building in Australia. It’s a 91-story tower. Cost? Just over $1 billion, according to reports.

The plan: a mixed-use landmark. A 285-room luxury hotel. 272 premium residences. Shops, a beach club, pools and a so-called “six-star resort hotel.” It’s billed as beachfront, high-end, and built to draw attention.

Altus Property Group, the local developer, put it bluntly. “Australia’s tallest building will be a Trump Tower, right in the middle of Surfers Paradise — it’s great for Queensland tourism, and fantastic for Australia,” the company said in a statement.

The Trump Organization also posted about the project on social media: “The Trump Organization, in partnership with Altus Property Group, is proud to announce the launch of Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast, our first Trump-branded project in Australia. This 91-story landmark will feature a 285-room luxury hotel, 272 premium residences,…”

Eric Trump shared his own message too. He wrote exactly, “I am so proud to announce what will soon be the tallest building in Australia — Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast. This marks our first venture into Australia — an extraordinary country in every respect — and I couldn’t be more excited to help shape its iconic skyline forever. More to come…”

Altus’ chief executive, David Young, says the firm has chased this deal for years. He even called Ivanka Trump way back in 2007. Now the project is moving ahead. Young emphasized local control: “Importantly, the building is Australian-owned and Australian-built. It is an Altus subsidiary, Altus Resorts Pty Ltd, that makes the decisions on the fit-out, within the Trump design requirements,” Young added.

Supporters point to the benefits. More tourists. New jobs. Another global brand landing in Australia. The Trump name is expected to bring attention and, they say, premium buyers and guests.

Critics will of course raise questions about branding and politics. But on the flip side, developers stress the building is locally owned and built to international luxury standards. One backer even said, “It won’t have a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton brand above the front door, but it will say ‘Trump.’ And that means it is a no-expense-spared, highest-possible-quality building — the best in the world.”

Construction details and timelines are still being finalized. The deal was reportedly signed at Mar-a-Lago. Expect more details on design, exact timelines, and sales plans as the project moves from announcement to shovel-in-ground.
