Former President Donald Trump’s attorney John Lauro appeared on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” Sunday to discuss the evidence in special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal case against Trump and address criticisms of his former boss made by former Vice President Pence. In response to the host’s questions on the relationship between Trump and Pence, Lauro proclaimed that Pence would be “our best witness.”
Lauro explained that “the ultimate ask of Vice President Pence was to pause the count and allow the states to weigh in…and what I’ve said is consistent with what Vice President Pence is saying.” He further added that Pence agrees with the existence of “election irregularities, fraud, unlawful actions at the state level, all of which eviscerates any allegations of criminal intent on the part of President Trump.” Lauro contended that while disagreement between President Trump and Vice President Pence were constitutional, “never in our country’s history has those kinds of disagreements been prosecuted criminally; it’s unheard of.”
Trump was indicted on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty during a Thursday arraignment in Washington, D.C. Speaking to reporters at D.C.’s Reagan National Airport following the arraignment hearing, Trump commented that the criminal case against him was “persecution.” He stated: “This is the persecution of the person that’s leading by very, very substantial numbers in the Republican primary. Leading Biden by a lot. So if you can’t beat him, you persecute him or you prosecute him. We can’t let this happen in America.”
It appears that Democrats are weaponizing the Department of Justice by utilizing its resources to prosecute political foes, rather than upholding the traditional duties of the institution.
The attempts to indict and convict Donald Trump are evidence of the biased liberal media, and their attempts to tarnish a once legitimate political figure through the biased media frenzy. From the various accounts of Trump’s “persecution” by his former Vice President, to the lack of receptiveness from the Justice Department, these events expose the sinister efforts to derail Trump and his administration’s goals for the future.
Unfortunately, it has become a common occurrence for prominent Democrats and liberal politicians to take advantage of power and authority to target those who disagree with their party’s agenda. As clearly seen in this situation, progressive politicians are using the legal system to try and undermine the democratic process, while completely disregarding the facts and circumstances surrounding this case.
It is imperative that the American public recognizes and holds accountable those attempting to undermine democracy and justice for the sake of politics.
