Turley Explains How Weiss Appointment Spells Doom For Crook Garland

Attorney General Merrick Garland may be facing an impending impeachment inquiry look into his recent questionable appointment made just last week. Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley spoke about this on Fox News Sunday, warning that the choice of placing David Weiss as special counsel could very easily have consequences of an impeachment inquiry.

Weiss was chosen to continue the investigation into Hunter Biden, despite him coming into question of control of the Hunter case after IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified Weiss’ allegedly told an Oct. 22 group of law enforcement that “he was not the deciding person on whether charges would be filed.” Weiss has since denied these allegations.

Shannon Bream, of Fox News, asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) if they were currently investigating President Joe Biden but received no comment. Shapley himself said that during their investigation, they had leads “clearly indicating that President Biden had some type of involvement, and we just weren’t allowed to follow those leads.”

In response to the news of the special counsel, Turley stated on air, “The question is why wouldn’t you answer that question? You just gave great detail as to the scope of the investigation of Hunter Biden and you won’t tell the public whether the president is subject to the mandate? There is no reason for that. I mean this is a point of clarity because otherwise you are telling the rank and file, ‘we aren’t necessarily going to investigate the president.’ There is still that sense of reluctance. God help us we have another special counsel.”

He added that Garland’s selection of this individual “doesn’t resolve the underling concerns about your leadership.” The appointment could easily fuel the angry calls on Capitol Hill to proceed with an impeachment inquiry on the AG.

“I think this is going to make it worse and likely fuel calls on the hill to move forward with an impeachment inquiry,” he said.

Watch

While it is too early to definitively know the impact of the appointment, it is easy to understand why Turley and the others are so concerned about Garland’s decision. There is a sense of total reluctance and it doesn’t seem as if we can expect satisfactory answers anytime soon. It’s clear that this latest move has done more to jeopardize Garland’s standing with Washington, and may easily lead to an impeachment inquiry. It will be intriguing to follow this story in the coming weeks, and see if the anger on Capitol Hill is actually transformed into concrete impeachment action against the AG.
