CNN reporter presses White House on hypocrisy in changing its tune on Trump’s alleged threat to democracy
In a recent White House press briefing, CNN’s MJ Lee challenged press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on the sudden shift in the administration’s rhetoric about President-elect Donald Trump. After repeatedly calling Trump an “existential threat” and “fascist” before the election, the White House has now pivoted to promoting a peaceful transition of power.
Lee pressed Jean-Pierre on why the American people have not heard President Joe Biden address the supposed threat since the election. The press secretary responded by saying that the will of the American people was clear in the election and the focus now is on a peaceful transfer of power.
But Lee wasn’t satisfied with this answer and pushed further, reminding Jean-Pierre of Biden’s previous statements about Trump and asking why he has suddenly stopped discussing the supposed threat.
Despite this, Jean-Pierre maintained that Biden’s beliefs about Trump have not changed and that he is now focused on leading by example and ensuring a smooth transition of power. However, this seems to contradict the administration’s previous stance on Trump, where they consistently portrayed him as a danger to democracy.
During the campaign, Biden accused Trump of being “willing to sacrifice our democracy” and threatening to “put himself in power.” He also claimed that Trump would lead to a “bloodbath” and joked about a violent image depicting the former president.
Yet, just two weeks after the election, Biden met with Trump at the White House and described the meeting as “gracious” and “substantive.” It appears that the White House’s current stance on Trump is at odds with their earlier statements and actions.
The media’s hypocrisy and bias against Trump is becoming increasingly apparent. Despite their claims of being neutral and the “watchdogs” of democracy, they have repeatedly taken sides and used their platform to push their agenda. It’s clear that their only goal is to vilify and discredit Trump, even if it means disregarding their own previous statements.
CNN’s questioning of the White House’s sudden change in rhetoric is a refreshing reminder to hold those in power accountable and not blindly accept everything they say. Let’s hope the media continues to do their job and serve as a check and balance to those in power, regardless of their political affiliations.
