President Donald Trump’s running mate for the General Election has been announced and the media is handling it exactly how they treated Trump. CNN correspondent Steve Contorno interviewed JD Vance on Thursday as he’s chosen to run with Trump, following the same lines. In the interview with CNN’s Contorno, Vance was asked to speak on Trump’s comments concerning the race of his main opponent for the November election, Vice President Kamala Harris.
Contorno, seemingly unable to resist engaging in race-baiting, questioned Vance on Trump’s statement regarding Harris. Trump had mentioned in his speech at the National Association of Black Journalists that “Vice President Harris is ‘all of the sudden black.'” Contorno then pivoted to Vance’s family, as his wife Usha is of Indian descent and they have three biracial children, asking if Trump’s comments gave him any pause.
In a deft manner, Vance shut down Contorno’s attempt at race-baiting, stating that Trump simply called out Harris for being a chameleon and shifting her identity based on her audience. He highlighted how Harris went to Georgia two days ago and put on a fake southern accent, but was raised in Canada and used to emphasize her Indian heritage before appearing as a black politician. Vance deemed it “totally reasonable” for Trump to call this out, as opposed to Contorno’s attempt at painting Trump as insensitive.
Vance then turned to the heart of the matter, which was Harris’s inconsistency, both racially and politically. He pointed out how Harris projects an image of being tough on crime as a former prosecutor, yet she advocates for open borders. Additionally, Harris claims to support the police, but just three years ago advocated for defunding them. This displays her lack of principles and disregard for the truth, as she adapts herself to whatever she believes will gain her power. It is this lack of integrity that compels Vance and Trump to publicly call out Harris’s shifting identity.
Trump’s Wednesday speech at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention in Chicago exemplified Harris’s inconsistency. ABC’s Rachel Scott attempted to agitate Trump with aggressive questioning, but instead, Trump displayed his good-natured humor, even as Scott became more agitated herself. Trump pointed out how Harris once embraced her Indian ancestry, but now heavily identifies with her father’s African-American heritage. This summarizes an essential aspect of Harris, her perpetual identity crisis, due to her lack of principles.
Contorno’s attempt at questioning Vance concerning Trump’s comments backfired spectacularly. Vance, as well as Trump, see Harris for what she is: someone who lacks consistency and principles, someone who does what she thinks will gain her power regardless of what is best for the country.

Trump’s support for Vance, coupled with his own display of wit while confronting the media, strengthens the position that Trump is the right leader for America.
