“It’s not fair to anybody,” said Barbara Annunziata, daughter of 94-year-old Army veteran Frank Tammaro, upon learning they would have to vacate their senior residence of five years come March, 2023.
The Island Shores Senior Residence was sold to the city to accommodate newly-arrived migrants; 15 such families moved into the former assisted living facility in September.
Tammaro, who has limited mobility and requires daily assisted living care, was forced to search for a new facility and ultimately moved in with his daughter.
“Why should he live the rest of his life someplace he didn’t like?” Annunziata said.
The injustice was compounded when Annunziata was unable to obtain government-funded aide for her father, while the migrants were receiving robust assistance.
“They’re worried about the migrants more than they’re worried about the U.S. citizens,” she said. “These migrants, they’re getting everything. They’re getting everything and I can’t get nothing for [Tammaro]. It angers me.”
The decision had a ripple effect throughout the community; protesters gathered outside Island Shores upon learning the news.
“The City of New York has been employing a practice of opening migrant shelters and placing migrants into shelters under the cover of darkness,” said Assemblyman Michael Tannousis. “They are not keeping the community apprised, and they are not keeping the elected officials apprised. This has caused a sense of panic amongst the constituency.”
The situation has sparked outrage and made people question the priorities of this nation.
“What does it say about a nation that tells its veterans it can’t care for them because it’s too busy making illegal migrants comfortable?” asked Fox News.
Abraham Lincoln said, “Any nation that does not honor its heroes will not long endure.”
With the displacement of Tammaro and other veterans, many are beginning to wonder whether Lincoln’s prediction will come true.
Frank Tammaro is a 94 year-old Army veteran.
A lifelong New Yorker, he ended up living in the Island Shores Senior Center for the last 5 years.
He, and 8 other veterans, were evicted from their home to make room for illegals. They will get it free-of-charge.

The failure to provide our veterans with the respect and support they deserve is a grave injustice. Who can forget what veterans like Tammaro have done for us? It’s time for us to take action and do all we can to stand up for our heroes.
