Texas Governor Greg Abbott is fed up with the ongoing influx of illegal immigrants that his state is being forced to accommodate. Meanwhile, cities like Chicago continue to flaunt their “sanctuary” status, making it clear to illegal immigrants that they are welcome and safe there.
To combat this issue, Gov. Abbott has taken action by chartering a plane to fly over 120 illegal migrants from El Paso to Chicago on Tuesday, catching airport and city officials by surprise. This move comes after months of tension between Texas and Chicago over the migrant crisis, with Abbott previously using buses to transport migrants to the Windy City.
Abbott’s spokesperson, Andrew Mahaleris, stated that the migrants “willingly choose to go to sanctuary cities,” and urged President Joe Biden to take action to secure the border. Mahaleris also made it clear that until the federal government does its job, Texas will continue to take matters into their own hands.
Meanwhile, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s recent crackdown on the buses delivering migrants has not gone unnoticed by Abbott. In response, the governor has shifted to using chartered flights, much to the dismay of Chicago residents who are already struggling to support their own communities.

Chicago Alderman Anthony Beale even attempted to get the city to vote on keeping its illegal immigrant protections, but the proposal was rejected. Mayor Johnson then shifted the blame to Abbott, calling it “sickening” that Chicago is being held accountable for “something that’s going on at the border.”
The reality is that illegal immigration and the chaos at the border are directly linked to cities like Chicago, who openly flout federal law and offer protection to those who enter the country illegally. As long as there are cities welcoming illegal immigrants with open arms, they will continue to come, putting a strain on the resources and communities of those cities.
Abbott didn’t invite these migrants in, Mayor Johnson and other Democratic leaders did. Their sanctuary policies send a clear message to anyone seeking to enter the country illegally that they will be protected and provided for in cities like Chicago. It’s time for Democrats to stop playing politics with illegal immigration and start accepting the consequences of their actions.
Chicago can’t have it both ways. They can’t continue to provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants while also complaining about the strain it puts on their city. If they continue to send out party invitations, they must be prepared to welcome the guests.

In the end, it all comes down to the federal government’s failure to take action and secure the border. But until they do, states like Texas will continue to bear the burden and do whatever it takes to protect their communities. As long as cities like Chicago keep their doors open to illegal immigration, the crisis will only continue to grow. It’s time for Democrats to stop evading responsibility and start working towards real solutions to the illegal immigration problem.
