House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) showed his true colors this week when he was pressed by CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin about the radical socialist policies of Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor. Instead of addressing the legitimate concerns about Mamdani’s far-left agenda, Jeffries resorted to deflection and outright frustration, proving once again that Democrats are terrified of defending their party’s lurch toward socialism.
The exchange began when Sorkin rightly questioned how Jeffries could claim to support free-market principles while backing a socialist like Mamdani, who has advocated for policies such as defunding the police, rent control, and wealth confiscation. Jeffries, visibly agitated, dodged the question before finally snapping:
“I’m trying to understand why you would spend a significant amount of time asking me about the Democratic nominee who’s not even the mayor.”
This weak response highlights the Democratic Party’s growing disconnect with mainstream America. While President Donald Trump has consistently championed free-market capitalism, strong law enforcement, and economic prosperity, Democrats like Jeffries are forced to defend extremists like Mamdani—or, in this case, refuse to answer altogether.
The CNBC host was entirely justified in pressing Jeffries on this issue. Mamdani’s radical policies are not some fringe concern—they represent the future of the Democratic Party. From open borders to wealth redistribution, the left’s agenda is increasingly out of touch with hardworking Americans. Meanwhile, President Trump continues to deliver real results, from historic tax cuts to deregulation that has fueled economic growth.
Jeffries’ meltdown is a microcosm of the Democratic Party’s broader problem: they can’t defend their own radical candidates without resorting to anger or evasion. While the liberal media shields figures like Mamdani from scrutiny, conservative voices rightly demand answers. If Democrats truly believe in their socialist policies, why won’t they debate them openly?
CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin repeatedly attempts to extract a straight answer from Hakeem Jeffries on if he supports socialism and Mamdani’s policies.

The transcript from the exchange reveals just how uncomfortable Jeffries was when confronted with the reality of his party’s leftward shift:
Sorkin: “I don’t understand how you can be an advocate for a free market and also support Zohran Mamdani, a socialist, as mayor.”
Jeffries (frustrated): “I’m trying to understand why you would spend a significant amount of time asking me about the Democratic nominee who’s not even the mayor.”
This is not leadership—this is evasion. While President Trump stands firm on his America First policies, Democrats are running from their own radicalism.
